Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence: Oman's Message of Islam

An exhibition in 28 languages in all five continents with information panels about Islamic life in a modern Arab societ

As a seafaring nation, Oman engaged in intercultural exchange with peoples around the Indian Ocean to China for over three millennia. Religious freedom is guaranteed in the Sultanate, based on the historical tradition of acceptance, understanding and peaceful coexistence between its various religious communities. The panels in this exhibition present facets of a modern Arab country and offer visitors insights into the practice of everyday life in Islam, aspects of life in Omani society and the role of women.

A documentary film by Grimme Prize winner Wolfgang Ettlich on the subject of religious tolerance in Oman as well as facsimile prints complete the exhibition.

The exhibition was originally conceived for Germany in 2009, but then extended to Europe due to the great interest and all five continents in 2014. It is part of an initiative of the Sultanate of Oman to promote peace and understanding, and has so far been shown more than 100 times worldwide in more than 30 countries in over 20 languages; in educational institutions, museums, cultural centers, government offices and religious institutions as well as in the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris and at the UN in Vienna and New York.
The project was nominated for the "UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence 2018".
