Oman is a safe country to travel to. Once upon a time... Sinbad the Sailor, the Frankincense Route and the Three Wise Men. Oman's exciting and eventful past has long been common knowledge. However, the proud people and breathtaking landscapes behind these legends are still a well-kept secret that is well worth discovering.

The Sons of Sinbad
The Omanis are an ancient seafaring people, cosmopolitan and open-minded. This results in their unique culture. Internationality is lived here, common languages are Arabic, Urdu and Swahili, English is largely standard. Skin colour plays no role. Religious freedom prevails.

Liberal and tolerant
Oman is independent in its Islamic thinking. This is based on the liberal, tolerant and democratic tradition of the Ibadhis. Ibadhi thinking is 70% state-supporting, but in a peaceful coexistence all other directions are also represented and everyone accepts and respects the attitude of the other. Religion is a private matter here. Oman is the only Gulf state with Christian churches of various colours and Hindu temples.

Politically independent
Today's politically neutral stance is also understandable given the special Islamic role that exists there. Oman is a non-aligned state, not a member of OPEC and acts as a mediator between the Arab and Western states as well as between the Muslim brother states and sees itself as such.

A safe country to travel to
Oman is an oasis of peace and security thanks to its longstanding political behaviour as a neutral state. From this position, the religious and independent sultanate has always acted as a mediator on the Arabian Peninsula and is not only respected and recognised in this role by all states in the region - but worldwide.
Crime in Oman is negligible. The country is politically stable. There is a broad middle class, which contributes to social stability.

Uncomplicated travelling
Hygiene and health standards in the country are very high. Vaccinations are not mandatory when travelling from Europe. The tap water is of drinking quality and eating raw fruit and vegetables is no problem. As is eating in smaller, simple and cheaper restaurants.
The tarred roads meet German standards, there is right-hand traffic and women are also allowed to drive here. All signage is in two languages: Arabic and English.
