The palace of Jabreen

Jabreen is often described as the most beautiful fortress in Oman. Built by Imam Bil’arub bin Sultan around 1670, the walls, doors and above all the magnificent wooden ceilings are still richly decorated today.

Floral motifs, Arabic poetry and suras from the Koran can be found almost everywhere and indicate Bil’arub's artistic inclination.

The landlord not only financed art, but also scholars of theology, astrology, medicine and law were sponsored by him and taught here.
The fortress, about eleven kilometres from Bahla, is somewhat isolated, which is why it fell into oblivion after Bil’arub's death and was only rediscovered and restored in the 1990s. Only the old date warehouse was left in its original state.
Another special feature of Jabreen is the small stable for the Imam's favourite horse - it is located on the second floor.
