Museum of the Land of Frankincense - Salalah

The Land of Frankincense Museum, also known as the Museum of the Francincense Land, is located in the Archaeological Park of Al Baleed in Salalah. The archaeological site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a visit to the museum can easily be planned at the same time, as both sights are open Saturday to Wednesday from 8 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm. Thursday and Friday only 4-8pm.

In two elaborately and attractively designed exhibition halls, the development of Oman and its rich maritime history is documented and an outline of the country's development from the Stone Age to the present day is presented. From Stone Age artefacts to the various types of ships and navigational equipment, the exhibits and presentation are impressive. For an extra charge on top of the entrance fee, you can take a tour of the archaeological park sitting in a golf caddy, which can be very practical in hot weather and for travellers with limited mobility on the extensive grounds in a beautiful landscape.

A visit to the neighbouring archaeological park of Al Baleed (Al Baliid) is particularly pleasant in the mild evening light, but a little tiring during the day due to the lack of shade.

There is also a small museum in the area ofSamharam, which is well worth a visit as part of a visit to the excavation site.
