Hotels along the east coast of Oman and Masirah

Hotels in the > Region Capital Area Muscat   > Region Batinah Coast   > Region Hajar-Mountains   > Region Sharqiya/Wahiba   > Region Southern Oman   > Region Musandam

Pink lagoons, white dunes, salt pans, cliffs and wadis - if you have a little more time to explore the country and enjoy the solitude of nature, the tour on the coastal road along the east coast of Oman from Al Ashkarah to Salalah is well worth it.

Masirah

The ferry terminal in Shannah can be reached in around 2 hours from Al Ashkarah. As the ferry journey, during which a hire car can be taken along for a very affordable fee, takes some time, we recommend staying on the island for at least two nights. The barren island is largely undeveloped and here you can still experience endless, deserted beaches in absolute seclusion without the remnants of the last picnics. It takes about two hours to drive around the island. Tourism on the island is more or less limited to kiters who appreciate the strong wind in summer (khareef) in warm temperatures. For birdwatchers, the island is a jewel, as many rare birds stop here in spring and autumn on their flight between Central Asia and the Horn of Africa, or winter here directly.

The coastal road to Salalah

If you want to take the road along the coast of Oman to Salalah, you should allow at least 4 days to visit the bays, wadis, pink lagoons, white dunes and salt pans or the Oryx Reserve as a detour from the road. An off-road vehicle is recommended, as it goes without saying that the special features of the route are not always directly accessible from the road. The landscape is diverse, rugged and breathtaking, but also sparse and sparsely populated.

Here are a few places to stay along the way.
