Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque Muscat

The silhouette of the Al Khuwair district of Muscat is dominated by the majestic, snow-white Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque built on a hill. It was financed by the long-established Omani merchant family Bahwan and completed in 2014. It is a clearly visible sign of the importance of the old trading families even in today's modern state. Its very tasteful interior design with fine materials was certainly very expensive, but is by no means ostentatious. A visit is definitely worthwhile.

The Bahwan family professes the Sunni faith of Islam. Although the mosque's imams all come from the reputable Al Azhar University in Cairo, Muslims of different faiths pray together here too, just like everywhere else in the country.
