Arabia Felix - "Happy Arabia" is what the Romans called the region in what is now Dhofar / Southern Oman. It was from there that the caravans came, bringing the coveted and precious frankincense resin, which they burned for ritual purposes in their temples.

We also discovered a happy Arabia in Oman, a country that has catapulted itself from one of the most rudimentary countries in the world into the modern present under its own steam with a very clever ruler since the 1970s. The people are peace-loving, friendly, polite and sympathetic, and everywhere you go there is a scent of perfume and incense and the landscapes are breathtaking. So we named our company after this old, yearning term.

When the Sultanate opened its borders to tourists in 1992, Georg Popp  travelled the country extensively for the first time together with his Omani friend Juma Al-Maskari and subsequently organised the first exhibition about the country in Bonn together with him on the occasion of the National Day reception by the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman.

Numerous longer stays in Oman, art projects, publications, documentary films and exhibitions in Germany, Oman and now all over the world followed. All of these activities and his initial pioneering work as a specialist tour operator for Oman are united under the umbrella of ARABIA FELIX Synform GmbH, which he founded in 1999.

1994 saw the publication of Georg Popp's first comprehensive travel guide to Oman. His regular research trips are the basis for the updated new editions of the book.

His wife Maria Popp and Karin Nowack have also been part of the team for over 10 years. The two of them go on an annual inspection trip to Oman to get an up-to-date picture of the condition of the local hotels and to make new contacts, test and suggest tours. This enables us to provide highly competent advice to prospective travellers, taking into account their specific personal interests, wishes and budgets.
