The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1985 at the instigation of the Sultan and has consisted exclusively of Omani musicians from the outset. During the founding phase, musically talented children were sought throughout the country. They were given the opportunity to learn a suitable instrument in a boarding school alongside their schooling.
Their professional musical training also took place exclusively in Oman. In 2007, the orchestra presented itself to the European public for the first time with great success at the Young Euro Classic festival in Berlin, performing a composition by the young Omani composer Hamdan Al Shuaily, among others.
With the Royal Opera House, which opened in autumn 2011, this orchestra, unique in the Arab world, was given its own concert hall.
