Flight from Frankfurt (Munich on request) with Oman Air non-stop to Muscat, where we arrive in the morning of the 2nd day. Transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, we begin our tour of the capital of Oman and stroll along the Corniche and through the souq in the Mutrah district. The next day, we will visit the Grand Mosque and the old town with the Sultan's Palace.

We drive along the coast towards the south-east and take a short hike in Wadi Shab before climbing the high plateau of the eastern Hajar Mountains via a steep mountain track. Passing the Majlis al-Jinn - one of the largest caves on earth - we reach mysterious 5000-year-old burial tombs. We then explore the green Wadi Bani Khalid on the south side of the mountains, where we can even take a dip in the clear rock pools. Here we have also reached the northern edge of the Wahiba sand desert. We drive a few kilometres westwards and look for a nice spot to pitch our tents in the middle of the dunes. The next morning, a colourful market by and for women takes place in Ibra. But the whole town is worth seeing on this day, as it is a meeting place for the Bedouins in the area. We continue westwards to the region around Nizwa, where our first stop will be the mountain village of Misfah.

Bahla is home to one of the most interesting souqs in the country, where a small but very nice cattle market is held on Thursday mornings. We then visit the magnificent residential palace of Jabrin, perhaps the most beautiful fort in the country. In the afternoon, we ascend to an altitude of 2000 metres and enjoy the view down to the Grand Canyon of Oman. The next morning we visit Nizwa's weekly animal market and, of course, the mighty fort. We also stroll through the souq, which is the best place to buy old silver. The afternoon is free for further exploration on your own.

We head south along a well-maintained tarred road. Then we immerse ourselves in the desert world of the Empty Quarter, the Rub al-Khali, where we spend four nights. Leisurely daily stages always leave time to climb one of the mighty dunes. On day 12 we reach Shisr, where an old caravan station associated with the legendary Ubar has been discovered. We drive through the mountains of Jebel Qara to Salalah and will certainly be surprised by the lush vegetation after the desert days.
On the way we visit the fort of Taqah and the historic incense harbour of Samhuram. For the last two nights, we move into our rooms in a small hotel right on the beach and have the opportunity to rinse off the desert sand in the Indian Ocean.

The day is free for swimming, walking and exploring the city.

In the morning, transfer to the airport and return flight via Muscat.
