The fortress of Taqah is located in the centre of the coastal town of Taqah on the south coast of Oman. The small fortress houses a collection of artefacts collected by the locals as well as information boards about the time of the civil war in Dhofar from 1965 to 1975.
In contrast to the castles of northern Oman, this one appears small and cosy from the outside, the walls and ceilings are crooked, the few rooms are low, laid out with carpet tables and filled with everyday objects of life in Dhofar.
Towering above the fortress on a hill is another small fortification with a small museum and adjoining café. From here you have a unique view over the town and the coast.
