The climate zones of Oman

>Plants  >Animals   >Geology  >Water

A visit to Oman in midsummer is a very special experience. The sun beats down vertically on the desert, transforming Muscat's dark rocks into ovens that glow day and night. Even in the deepest darkness, temperatures do not fall below forty degrees Celsius. The high humidity does the rest, making visitors from temperate latitudes doubt their decision to travel to Oman at this time of year. But the Omanis are always there to congratulate you on your decision. Because to them the weather in Salalah is perfect at this time of the year. The monsoon rains have set in, it is "cool" and rainy.

➤ The coastal area of the north, including Muscat, has a subtropical climate. Summers are very hot with high humidity, while in winter the temperatures are very pleasant at around 25°C during the day. During this time, however, there can also be occasional rainfall, which is rare but usually heavy and can be dangerous in mountainous areas. There may be snowfall on the highest peaks of the Hadjar Mountains at the turn of the year.

➤ Central Oman, with its vast forests and rolling landscapes, has a dry climate that can easily reach 50°C in the shade during the summer months and generally has very little rainfall.

➤ And finally, in the south, the Dhofar region. From June to September, it is under the influence of the Khareef, the south-west monsoon. This gives it a tropical, humid climate with dense fog and persistent drizzle on the coast. the average temperature does not exceed 35°C. Due to the strong currents and high waves that then occur on the south coast, swimming is prohibited there during the monsoon season. Tourists from the neighbouring Gulf States in particular take the opportunity to escape the heat of the Arabian Peninsula during these months.

From October onwards, the sun shines again, with daily temperatures ranging from 30 to 35°C. The sea calms down and is pleasantly warm. The best time for Europeans to visit southern Oman is therefore from October to April.
