Even from a distance, you can see the watchtower on a small hill around which the village spreads out. Here you can still discover some very well-preserved clay buildings.
Al-Mudayrib has retained much of its appearance, atmosphere and character as a guard post on the edge of the desert, although new buildings are also being constructed around the old settlement.
The historic town centre is surrounded by small hills with watchtowers visible from afar. In the centre of the valley, the houses are grouped around the only falaj. The oldest surviving buildings in al-Mudayrib date back to the 18th century. The comparatively good condition of their masonry is due to the solid construction method: the stones were joined with a mixture of clay and plaster. The large, fortified buildings were used as meeting places by the various clans of the village. In the event of conflict, the complex also served as a refuge for individual tribe members or extended families.
