The fortress of Nakhl

The castle towers majestically on a rock above the oasis. It is remarkable how natural rock and architecture merge into one another. The towers offer a rewarding view over the extensive, palm-covered oasis. In the past, the exposed location was used to control the surrounding area.

The construction history of the fortress of Nalhl dates back to the 3rd century AD, to the time of the Sassanid occupation of the area. Most of the buildings preserved today date back to the 16th century.
