Those who set off on a dhow from Khasab will discover a unique fjord landscape on the Strait of Hormuz, where thousand-metre-high rock walls and formations plunge into deep, crystal-clear water.

The small city of Khasab offers neither car hire nor public buses, so early planning of your stay with tour operators is recommended.

A well-developed tarred road along the Arabian Gulf connects the regional capital Khasab with Dubai. There is currently no other way to enter Musandam by land than (only!) to the Zighy Bay Hotel via Dibba (exemption with boarder pass) or via the road from Ras al Khaimah (UAE) (Tibat border post)

The quickest way to reach Oman from Muscat is by domestic flight to Khasab, which takes around 50 minutes. This connection is offered daily. As this is a domestic flight, you do not need a new visa when landing in Musandam. If you want to cover the distance by rental car, you have to pass through the Emirates (note the insurance conditions!), require a new visa on entering Musandam and allow a whole day for the journey.

If you want to explore the beauty of Musandam, you will need to switch from your car to a dhow and sail through the extensive fjord landscape.

In Khasab, there is a small selection of hotels from which you can explore the area on guided day trips or by dhow travelling over several days.
